Lug matrices are designed to separate the approximate surfaces of adjacent teeth in type II restorations.
- Lug matrices provide more complete tooth engagement than sectional matrices.
- Lugs allow to tighten the matrix to the adjacent tooth in any of three directions.
- Holes in the matrix edge provide more reliable matrix handling upon installation and extraction.
